Bankruptcy will affect your future credit because it will be on your credit report for ten years. So any creditor can hold that against you when they deciding whether or not they are going to lend you money. Also, at the same time, you have to understand that you are doing business with a creditor and they want to bring up your prior past, then maybe you do not want to do business with a creditor like that because they are just trying to hang something over your head so they can charge you higher interest rates. I like to tell people that it is like playing a game of poker. You are at a table and the creditor is deciding whether or not they can bluff you into charging you more which is where the interest rate comes in. Obviously it is the job of the creditor to charge you as much as they can without having you default on the loans. It is your job to make sure when you get into a financial situation that you are able to make the payments and that you are not doing business with someone that is going to take advantage of you. So what I would do is if someone started bringing up bankruptcy, I would tell them, no thanks, I'm not interested and that would be the end of the conversation and move onto the next creditor.
